Description: | A prehormone produced in the liver by hydroxylation of vitamin D3. Measure the levels of the metabolite to determine a patient’s vitamin D status. The metabolite is then converted in the kidneys to calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D. Increased levels are associated with increases absorption of calcium. |
