Iridium

Iridium,  Ir:    Iridium-191 pellets are used to produce the Iridium-192 cylinders that are used for implants into the prostate to treat prostate cancer by irradiation. The Natural Iridium disks can also be used to produce the Iridium -192 for the treatment of prostate cancer. However, the use of the Iridium-191 gives a much higher specific activity and allows the use of smaller sources.
