Description: A labeled quartenary ammonium compound. Used for the transport of fatty acids from the intermembrane space into the mitochondrial matrix in eukaryotic cells during the breakdown of lipids for the generation of metabolic energy. Lowers the risk of mortality and arrhythmias after an acute myocardial infarction. Decreases bone turnover and increases bone mineral density. May also be used to treat hyperthyroidism.
